Privacy notice

Effective 12 October 2026

In short
  • No accounts, analytics or ad trackers run on the site.
  • Emails serve only to reply and are deleted within a year.
  • You may ask to see, fix or erase what we hold about you.

The data controller

This policy covers socialcompetitionhub.com, an independent editorial site about hotels. The people who edit socialcompetitionhub decide what happens to the handful of personal details described here; write to hello@socialcompetitionhub.com with any question about it.

Reading needs no introduction

There are no user accounts, newsletters or member areas. Nothing on the site asks who you are before showing you a page, and we have deliberately left out analytics and audience-measurement software.

Messages that reach us

Whether you write from your own mail client or via the contact form, which simply pre-fills a draft there, the email arrives with whatever you put in it: normally a name, a reply address and some text. That content serves one job only, which is answering you.

Server records

As with almost any website, the hosting company may note routine request details automatically, such as the connecting IP, the user-agent string, the URL fetched and a timestamp. Such logs exist to fend off abuse and outages, get purged on a short cycle, and nobody uses them to work out who a visitor is.

Storage in your browser

One small value is saved in your browser to remember your answer to the storage notice. Our cookies page describes it.

Our refusals

  • The site loads zero advertising pixels, social share widgets or tracking code.
  • We build no reader profiles and make no automated decisions about anyone.
  • We never sell, rent or swap personal information.

Third parties

Our typefaces are fetched from Google Fonts, a request that exposes your connection's IP address to Google. Hotel websites we link to run under their own privacy rules the moment you arrive on them.

Legal basis and retention

The basis we rely on is legitimate interest: it is reasonable for a publication to answer its correspondence. Threads stay in our mailbox while they are live and are erased within a year of the most recent reply.

Your rights

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may ask for a copy of your data, its correction or deletion, a restriction or objection to its use, and you may complain to your local data protection authority. Send any request by email and we will reply within the time your law allows.

Age

The site is written for adults. Messages we discover were sent by under-18s are deleted straight away, and we do not aim to collect anything from children.

Updates

Any change in how we handle data will appear here first, and the date above will move to match.
